Porter, David Dixon
(8 jun. 1813, Chester, Pa., EE.UU.–13 feb. 1891, Washington, D.C.).

Oficial de marina estadounidense. Prestó servicios a las órdenes de su padre, David Porter, en las Antillas y en la armada mexicana, antes de ingresar a la armada de EE.UU. en 1829. Ascendió a capitán de fragata durante la guerra de Secesión y estuvo a las órdenes de su hermano adoptivo, David Farragut, para colaborar en la victoriosa captura de Nueva Orleans. En 1863 logró sobrepasar con su flota el fuerte de la Confederación en Vicksburg y encontrarse con las tropas de Ulysses S. Grant para completar la operación de abrir el río Mississippi a las fuerzas de la Unión. Después de la guerra fue superintendente de la Academia Naval de EE.UU. (1865–69) y ascendió a almirante (1870).
